New Dialing Rules for Spain and Italy Require TAPI Update --------------------------------------------------------- 1. Introduction The numbering plan changes in Spain and Italy are not taken into account by all versions of Windows and TAPI. This could cause incorrect behavior of PIMphony when dialing international numbers in canonical format (dialable numbers do not use TAPI dialing rules) or receiving international numbers. This note gives a status on the numbering plan changes and explains how to correct the problem on Windows / TAPI versions that do not reflect this change. 2. New Dialing Rules * Numbering Plan changes for Spain (34) effective as of April 3, 1998: - all numbers must be dialed as full 9-digit numbers - current national prefix of 9 is now incorporated into the national number - international prefix 00 replaces the previous prefix of 07 The new TAPI dialing rules should be: - local calls: IG (area code [optional] + local number) or FG (area code + local number) - long distance calls: IG (area code [optional] + local number) or FG (area code + local number) - international calls: 00,EFG (00 + pause + country code + area code + local number) * Numbering Plan changes for Italy (39) effective as of June 19, 1998: - complete national number beginning with the digit 0 is dialed for all national calls (both local and national): 0 + NDC (National Destination Code) + SN (Subscriber Numer) - for incoming international calls to Italian subscribers, the dialing format has changed from +39 NDC SN to +39 0NDC SN The new TAPI dialing rules should be: - local calls: IG (area code [optional] + local number) - long distance calls: IG (area code [optional] + local number) - international calls: 00EFG (00 + country code + area code + local number) 3.
